Liverpool and Aston Villa are monitoring FC Nantes centre-back Nathan Zézé (19), according to a report this Tuesday from Ouest-France. The 19-year-old is widely considered one of France’s most promising prospects at centre-back and was included in Get French Football News‘ next generation of Ligue 1 breakout stars. Serie A champions Inter Milan previously tested the waters and Nantes’ resolve to part ways with their academy product in submitting a €15m offer that was rejected by the Ligue 1 club earlier in the summer transfer window.
So far this Ligue 1 season, the 19-year-old Zézé has formed a solid partnership at the back alongside Cameroon international Jean-Charles Castelletto. Antoine Kombouaré’s Canaris are yet to concede this season following a goalless draw at Toulouse and a convincing 2-0 home win against promoted side AJ Auxerre. Ouest-France report that a handful of Premier League clubs, including Liverpool and Aston Villa, are keeping an eye on Zézé’s progress. The outlet understands that a €20m bid may soften Nantes’ stance regarding their prized asset, who recently put pen to paper over a contract extension tying him to the Loire side until 2028.
