In a recent report (subscription required), The Athletic’s David Ornstein mentioned that Liverpool have agreed on a deal to land Eintracht Frankfurt frontman Hugo Ekitike. It has been claimed that the Reds have the outline of an agreement with the German club for a move that would see the French striker make a switch to Anfield this summer.
Ekitike had a fine campaign at the Bundesliga club as he managed to produce a lot of fruitful displays for them in the final third. The French attacker participated in 48 matches for Eintracht Frankfurt last season, scoring 22 goals and securing 12 assists in the process on all fronts.
The 23-year-old did well to attempt 4.0 shots per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He kept 38.6% of his shots on target. Ekitike even distributed possession relatively well in the opponent’s half after making 75.5% of his attempted passes in the top tier of German football (stats via fbref.com).
Ekitike is under contract at Frankfurt until the summer of 2029. Hence, the Reds have got no choice but to meet Frankfurt’s demands if they want to get a deal over the line for him this off-season.

Ekitike is proficient at finding some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to play some decisive passes in the final third and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet.
The French talent has proven himself to be a consistent goal-scorer in German football. Standing at 1.90m, Ekitike is a strong presence in the air as well. However, only time will tell whether he can maintain his good form in the Premier League.
Ekitike would no doubt enhance the quality of Liverpool head coach Arne Slot’s frontline. He has what it takes to nail down a regular first-team spot at Anfield next season.
At 23, Ekitike has a bright future ahead of him and could help the Reds compete for a lot of major honours over the next decade. Thus, he would be a great signing for the Merseyside club to pull off this summer.
