Lisandro Martinez’s move from Ajax to Manchester United is all but complete.

On Friday morning, Fabrizio Romano tweeted the three magic words that are ‘here we go’, with the Argentine defender to sign a five-year deal at Old Trafford.

The package for Martinez will cost United around €55 million and according to The Telegraph, he’ll pocket just over £120,000-a-week.

It’s a lot of money, but the 24-year-old will likely prove to be worth the substantial outlay.

Martinez is a huge talent, one capable of playing in multiple positions to a very high standard.

He primarily operates as a centre-back, but is also comfortable when deployed as either a left-back or as a defensive midfielder.

That level of versatility will be invaluable to Erik ten Hag, who was the man that moulded Martinez at Ajax into the star we see today.

The Argentina international really is the perfect modern day defender. Despite his reasonably small stature (he stands around 5’9″), Martinez is great in the air, tackles brilliantly and can play passes as good as any midfielder, something we touched on HERE.

Oh and on top of that, he’s ridiculously skilful, which he showcased to the world during a training session while on Ajax’s books.

In footage uploaded to the club’s official social media channels, Martinez performed one of the most outrageous trick shots we’ve ever seen.

And judging by his ice-cold reaction, it certainly wasn’t the first time he nailed the complex routine…

Stop that, Lisandro!

Trying to put the ball in the back of the net from behind the goal is hard enough as it is, let alone after performing an audacious flick, pirouetting and then hitting it on the half volley – unreal stuff.

Martinez will be United’s third signing of the summer after the arrivals of Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord and Christian Eriksen on a free transfer.

Slowly but surely, Ten Hag’s squad is beginning to look like one capable of making a play for the Premier League top four in 2022/23.

Under the disastrous rule of Ralf Rangnick following the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s long-awaited departure, United fell way behind their rivals last season and ended up finishing sixth in the table.

For a club of their stature, Europa League football is simply not good enough and the onus will be on Ten Hag to guide the team back into the Champions League for 2023/24.

With Martinez, Eriksen, Malacia and perhaps Frenkie de Jong on board, the manager should have all the necessary tools at his disposal to achieve the goal.
