FC Barcelona conceded the 2019/20 La Liga title to arch-rival Real Madrid after slumping to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of CA Osasuna. The Catalan giants were undone by the opposition’s sturdy defending as goals from Jose Arnaiz and Roberto Torres nullified Lionel Messi’s sublime free-kick goal in the second half.

FC Barcelona Player Ratings Vs CA Osasuna

Marc Andre ter Stegen 4/10

Marc Andre ter Stegen was perhaps still in shock when Arnaiz scored the opener out of nowhere in the first half. It was the only real for test for the German as Barcelona dominated the game for the most part. But, he was caught out again during the late stages of the game as Torres doubled Osasuna’s lead.

Nelson Semedo 3/10

Nelson Semedo had a miserable evening dealing with the threat of Pervis Estupinan. He was completely overwhelmed on the right flank of the Osasuna goal while providing very little offensive threat going forward. Got replaced in the second half.

Gerard Pique 5/10

Gerard Pique actually had very little to do as Barcelona kept dominating possession. In fact, the Spaniard played a major role in pushing his team forward during the second half. He was caught out through a late counter-attack from Osasuna that led to the second goal.

Clement Lenglet 6/10

Clement Lenglet was excellent in the defensive side of his game, making multiple headed clearances and keeping things tip-top at the back. His passing was also top-notch, although the same cannot be said for many of his teammates this evening.

Junior Firpo 3/10

A disastrous display from Junior Firpo, who simply failed to provide any sort of inspiration down the left flank. He was caught ball-watching for the Osasuna goal while his offensive support was also underwhelming.

Ivan Rakitic 5/10

Yet another disappointing performance from Ivan Rakitic, who was alright in the possession phase, though in truth, he was provided very little pressure. It was the Croatian’s creative essence that was lacking as he eventually made way for Sergio Busquets after the hour mark.

Sergi Roberto 4/10

Starting as a right-sided central midfielder, Sergi Roberto deserves some stick for not offering adequate defensive support to Semedo on the right flank, especially in the build-up to the first goal from Arnaiz. The Spaniard later linked up well with his teammates, but was caught out of position for the second half, though that was rather understandable.

Riqui Puig 5.5/10

Riqui Puig looked very lively in the first-half, hovering around the half-spaces, and with his excellent movement and passion he allowed Barcelona to probe the Osasuna defence. His influence waned after the restart as the midfielder eventually made way for Frenkie de Jong.

Lionel Messi 7/10

By far the best performer for Barcelona this evening, Messi constantly tried to make things happen with his magical passes, movements and combination play with his teammates. Scored from an exquisite free-kick to score the equaliser and was perhaps unlucky to not score another. He was the only bright spot in an otherwise dire performance from FC Barcelona.

Martin Braithwaite 3/10

A disappointing performance from Martin Braithwaite, who looked clueless in the number nine role. He barely provided any threat for the Osasuna defence and was rightly taken off in the second half.

Ansu Fati 5/10

Ansu Fati had a mixed game this evening. The youngster showed a lot of determination and didn’t lack focus, but his end product wasn’t up to the mark. Barcelona may have missed the finesse of Antoine Griezmann in this one.

SUBSTITUTES

Arturo Vidal 6/10

Was a constant attacking outlet for Barcelona after replacing Semedo around the hour mark. The Chilean may have been tidier with his one-touch passing, but he offered a threat nonetheless.

Luis Suarez 6.5/10

Luis Suarez definitely made an impact with his clever runs in behind the defence, after initially coming on for Braithwaite in the 59th minute. The Uruguayan most notably scored an amazing overhead kick that was denied due to offside.

Sergio Busquets 6/10

Provided much more composure in the middle of the park after replacing Rakitic in the 67th minute. His passing was top-notch, as ever.

Jordi Alba 6/10

Offered more energy and quality down the left flank after coming in at the expense of Firpo during the final phase of the game.

Frenkie de Jong 6/10

Finally made his return to the starting lineup, replacing Puig in the 79th minute. The Dutchman threaded some nice passes in the final third.
