West Ham v Manchester United

Scorers: Benrahma 29â€Č; Ronaldo 34â€Č, Lingard 89â€Č

Jesse Lingard returned to haunt West Ham this afternoon as his late stunner saw Manchester United beat the Hammers 2-1.

It was the home side who had the best chance in the opening exchanges as Pablo Fornals laid in Jarrod Bowen, only for the winger to fire his shot straight at David de Gea.

The visitors weren’t to be outdone however and went close themselves on 27 minutes when Bruno Fernandes’ superb left-foot volley crashed against the post.

But just moments later it was the Hammers who took the lead. Said Benrahma’s effort deflected off Raphael Varane and past De Gea.

That lead didn’t last long though, as Cristiano Ronaldo ghosted in and finished from close range past Lukasz Fabianski.

After the break and Ronaldo almost immediately gave the Red Devils the lead, only to be thwarted by the increasingly excellent Fabianski.

And the Portugal international was at the heart of things again late on when he really should have been given a penalty after a foul by Vladimir Coufal inside the area.

But it was a late substitute who eventually did get Man United’s goal as Jesse Lingard jinked past two defenders and curled an effort into the top left-hand corner.

That wasn’t the end of the drama however, as West Ham were given a penalty in injury time, only for captain Mark Noble to have his effort saved by De Gea.

Brighton v Leicester

Scorers: Maupay (PEN) 35â€Č, Welbeck 50â€Č; Vardy 61â€Č

Despite late rallying from Leicester, Brighton held on for a 2-1 win over the Foxes to climb to second in the Premier League table.

Marc Cucurella was making his first start for Brighton here following a summer move from Getafe and looked lively in the opening exchanges.

But it was Youri Tielemans who had the first effort of the game, with his 30 yard effort curling just wide of the post.

It was the hosts though, who got the first goal as Neal Maupay finished with aplomb from the penalty spot after a handball from Jannik Vestergaard.

The Seagulls were flying now and could have added a second soon after with chances coming for Leandro Trossard and Danny Welbeck.

Into the second half and Welbeck did get his goal as the former Man United man headed in a fantastic Trossard free kick.

But on his 250th Premier League appearance, Jamie Vardy got the Foxes back in the game as he latched on to the end of a Tielemans cross to finish from inside the area.

Brendan Rodgers’ men were pushing for an equaliser and thought they had it on 67 minutes only for Harvey Barnes to have been deemed offside.

And the same thing happened again with just minutes remaining as Barnes was, for a second time, adjudged to be offside in the lead-up to a goal
