Over six months after suffering a cardiac arrest, Nabil Bentaleb (30) could soon return to the pitch.
It’s an extraordinary recovery for the Algerian international after he suffered a cardiac arrest during a five-a-side session with friends last June. A defibrillator was used and CPR was administered to him at the time.
Bentaleb was admitted to the Lille University Hospital following the incident.
His club, Lille OSC, have now announced that he has been medically cleared and is therefore able to return to the pitch. When that will happen remains unclear.
A Football League Cup runner-up with Tottenham Hotspur in 2014-15, Bentaleb joined Lille on a three-year contract in June 2023 from Angers SCO.
Although the former Spurs and Newcastle United man was born in Lille, he represents Algeria and played for the national team in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He began his footballing career at the Lille youth academy.
