Paris Saint-Germain are already way ahead of the chasing pack but the race for Champions League spots is still as open as ever.
If the season finished today, what would the Team of the Season look like?
Here’s our XI best performers so far …
Lecomte has carried his good form from last season into this one and is a big reason Montpellier currently have the second best defensive record in Ligue 1.
The 27-year-old earned a well deserved maiden call-up to the French national team last season.
The World Cup winner has made a brilliant start to the season. Once there was a debate surrounding whether the 23-year-old should start ahead of Marquinhos for PSG, but there’s no debate any more.
Lille suffered a lot in defence last season but the experienced Portuguese centre-back they signed in the summer has brought a lot of confidence and calmness to the north of France.
The Brazilian has probably enjoyed the best spell of his PSG career to date during the opening weeks of this season. His reading of the game is brilliant as ever, and he’s been showing a lot of character and leadership on the pitch lately.
The Moroccan has made a great comeback to French football since joining from Getafe this summer. He has added a new dimension to Caen’s game, and seems to be the perfect midfielder for Fabien Mercadal’s philosophy.
Just like his team, the Brazilian has undergone a transformation during the summer. He is now the strong, effortlessly brilliant midfielder that we were told we were getting when he moved to Ligue 1 a year ago.
No Malcom? No problem. Since Les Girondins sold the Brazilian to Barcelona, Kamano has taken on extra offensive responsibility and has already contributed an impressive seven goals this season.
The joint-top scorer and probably Ligue 1’s Player of the Season so far. The Brazilian’s new position as a number 10 helps him to unleash all his creativity.
He arrived from Saint-Etienne this summer and was reunited with his old master, Christophe Galtier. At Lille, Bamba has so far displayed all of his skills (pace, dribbling and finishing) in a lethal outfit.
A man who requires no introduction. Mbappé missed three of the first nine games through suspension but is still the league’s joint-top scorer, and he doesn’t even play up front most of the time!
The revelation of the season so far. Last season, Pépé was one of the few Lille players who really helped the team despite all their issues. This season he has been nigh-on unstoppable, and the 23-year-old has a very bright future ahead of him.
