As Ibrox Noise reported some weeks ago, Cyriel Dessers seeks to leave Rangers and it has been reported in France that St Etienne of Ligue 1 are interested in the hitman.
There hasn’t been a falling out between manager Philippe Clement and the Nigerian international, but the ex-Feyenoord striker is now aware he is no longer first choice, and wishes to play his football at a club where he will start more.
Dessers never felt the love from Rangers fans, and in fairness he’s not wrong – supporters never took to him despite his workrate and more than respectable numbers, but since Moroccan Hamza Igamane and Brazilian Danilo both fully gained fitness, the £6M signing from Cremonese has been on the outside looking in.
He isn’t happy being on the bench.
And he certainly didn’t look enthralled at Hampden being deployed as a late sub.
There is little doubt he is unhappy at Rangers now, and without having a starting jersey to compensate the lack of love he feels he’s had from fans, he looks likely to move on.
Few Rangers fans will be overly unhappy at that, even if Ibrox Noise feels he’s been given a bit of a raw deal.
Early reports indicate the club would seek to make around £3M+ from the sale, a 50% loss.
Unless, that is, new Technical Director Nils Koppen, CEO Patrick Stewart and Chairman Fraser Thornton are going to be more ruthless in the transfer market. Dessers’ current value is around £3M according to transfermarkt.
We’ll see.
