Liverpool’s Performance Evaluated: Player Ratings vs West Ham

This Saturday lunch time encounter came after the loss to Everton on Wednesday evening, one which left the reds fanbase disheartened and disillusioned. West Ham and Liverpool both carried in some poor form prior to this game, therefore, it was always going to be a tough result to predict and the end result was probably a fair reflection of the game state.

The line up and subsequent ratings are listed below.

Alisson Becker – 6.0

The giant Brazilian was good in midweek and would be seen as vital to any chance of success at the London Stadium. The first half was a largely untroubled period for the former Roma man, until a Jarrod Bowen shot needed pushing round the post. The resulting corner saw the Hammers forward head home, giving the reds keeper no chance. After the break there was little to do until West Ham pounced to grab a share of the points.

Trent Alexander Arnold – 5.0

The England superstar was woeful in the Derby and was lucky to keep Joe Gomez out of this starting eleven. Unfortunately for the traveling support, the first half was another underwhelming display, as the hybrid playmaker couldn’t make much of an impact, though was sound defensively. On resumption of the second half the vice captain was more impactful and looked to be pivotal in the much needed fightback.

Andy Robertson – 6.0

The Scotland international started this game once more, to add more thrust the flanks. The initial stages was a repeat of continual crossing and little else, as the reds stumbled to half time. The equaliser came courtesy of the former Hull man who struck into the corner from a crowd as he enjoyed a more fruitful second period.

Jarell Quansah – 6.0

The England under-21 international defender came back into the starting line up, after the Goodison Park disaster. With a strong and confident start, the academy graduate showed why a recall was deserved. After the restart and with his team one goal behind, the 6ft 3inch centre back once again portrayed good composure, however, the West Ham equaliser needed more alertness to the dangers.

Virgil van Dijk – 6.0

The captain and leader of this team started with a desire to impress the incoming new manager. Not even the legendary Dutchman could drive this group forward as they staggered to a 1-0 deficit at half time. After the mid game break, the former Celtic man was vocal and combative, yet the energy just wasn’t there.

Ryan Gravenberch – 6.0

The Dutch midfielder came back into the side after his impressive goal against Fulham last weekend. The opening half of play was uneventful and void of conviction for the former Ajax prodigy. As the game resumed, the 6ft 3inch summer signing was more important to build up and showed flashes of what he can become.

Alexis Mac Allister – 7.0

The Argentina World Cup winner had to start and did indeed begin this must win encounter. With fatigue and too many minutes in the legs of the former Brighton man, the opening half was a case of limited impact. After the half time team talk, the midfield controller was revitalised and showed the character that will be vital to the regeneration.

Wataru Endō – 5.0

The Japan captained came back into the team after a midweek rest at Goodison Park. Some first half interceptions and simple use of the play all seemed quite flat, as the tasks were carried out without any real quality. In the second half the former Bundesliga enforcer was ineffective to the fightback and leveled out to what he was signed to be, a back up player.

Luis Díaz – 7.0

The Colombian flyer deserved to keep his place after an effort filled outing on Wednesday night. The same level of intensity and running was seen in the first half, as the former Porto man struck the post just before the opening goal. As the game moved into the second period, the 27-year-old was the provider for the immediate equalizer and proved why he is the reds best current forward. Various half chances can his way and it was a huge surprise to see him leave the field. A warrior and important asset that strives to make something happen today.

Cody Gakpo – 6.0

Once the news of Diogo Jota’s latest injury and the form of Darwin became known, the new father was always likely to come straight back into the team. The lack of incisive movement and creativity limited his first half showing, as like much of the side, the Dutchman coasted to half time. As the whistle sounded for the restart, the former PSV forward was much more vibrant and keen to keep his place on the field. A more ruthless nature is needed, though he was the scorer of the reds second goal, to a degree.

Harvey Elliott – 6.0

The England under-21 star was drafted in as the creator of chances in the altered front three. The first half was tough as the game slowed without any purpose or rhythm, with a snap shot hitting the side netting being his only significant contribution in the opening 45-minutes. The reds picked themselves up for the second half and the influence of the attacking asset improved with the games levelled. Nearly won the game late on, if not for the cross bar.

Jürgen Klopp – 6.0

The German manager went with a rotated team to try and salvage something from this back end of the season. The first half was flat and the one nil deficit going into the break was deserved.

The half time rallying clearly had a positive impact, as his men looked more vibrant and confident in their pursuit. The substitutions came when they were needed, however, taking off the man of the match with 15 minutes to go was peculiar.
