After winning LaLiga last season, Barcelona are looking to make their mark in Europe once again – and up steps Robert Lewandowski.
The Polish striker showed up when it mattered most, firing Barça into the lead at the Maradona in Naples to give his side a crucial lead in the Champions League last-16 tie.
With the strike, Lewandowski become the first Barcelona player not named Lionel Messi to score a goal in a Champions League knockout game since the club’s famous 8-2 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich in 2020.
Interestingly, Lewandowski was on the pitch for Bayern that day.
If Xavi’s men are going to make something of this season, a run in Europe could be the perfect tonic. Cometh the hour, cometh the man.
