Birmingham City new signing Kyogo Furuhashi has been subject to criticism following wastefulness in front of goal versus Oxford
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more...
Kyogo Furuhashi was signed earlier this summer from Celtic as Birmingham City's marquee transfer after their record-breaking League One promotion campaign last year - but he's yet to start truly firing in the Championship.
The Japan international arrived at St. Andrew's with plenty of expectation from the Blues faithful with an outstanding goalscoring record to his name in Scotland.
Furuhashi is no stranger to finding the back of the net as he scored 85 goals in 165 appearances for his former club, and was brought to the west Midlands to replicate this form after a tough few months at Stade Rennais.
However, with three games of the Championship season down, the 30-year-old has had an underwhelming start to life in Birmingham, failing to find the net as of yet (although he did score against Sheffield United in the EFL Cup), including a performance to forget against Oxford United at the weekend, having spurned three massive opportunities despite coming away with a 1-0 win.
Known for his clinical nature in front of goal and attacking prowess, Furuhashi's start to life in a Birmingham shirt hasn't been what the Blues fans expected of him.
But, with chances flowing, and the Japanese man having the natural instinct of being in the right position, a change of form should be around the corner for him.
When asked whether there were any early concerns about Furuhashi, Football League World's Birmingham City fan pundit, Jason Moore claimed that there shouldn't be any worries.
Moore told FLW: "No, I'm not concerned whatsoever. I think people need to realise that the guy has barely played any football over the past six months.
"I'd be more concerned if he's not getting any chances and the fact that he is getting chances, I just think eventually it's going to click for him, and once it clicks, I think he's going to be absolutely lethal.
"Anyone that is giving him criticism, I sort of think it spurns out of jealousy that they don't have a player of that quality in their team."
Despite a slow start in front of goal, with Furuhashi yet to get off the mark for his goalscoring tally this season, the new man remains a key feature in Birmingham City's starting XI, with Chris Davies having full faith in their big-money signing.
A tough trip to the King Power Stadium to face Leicester City is the Blues' next on their schedule on Friday night, and if Furuhashi is to get Birmingham City fans on board as the season gets into full swing, a goal against one of the Championship's big boys could well be vital for the Japanese to gain some much-needed momentum for his new club.
Moore was quick to wave away concerns about Furuhashi's recent form by saying: "I've got no concerns. I think once it clicks he's going to be clinical, and he's going to bag a tonne of goals. He's getting his chances, that's all we can ask from him so far.
"Again, once it clicks, I think teams are going to be a lot more scared of what this Birmingham City team can do," Jason added.
