Birmingham City welcome Oxford United to St Andrew’s on Saturday as the Championship season reaches matchweek three.
The Blues kicked things off with a draw against Ipswich and have already booked their place in the next round of the Carabao Cup after seeing off Sheffield United at home.
As for Oxford, it’s been a tough start. They went down to Portsmouth on the opening weekend and were then undone by a stoppage-time goal away at Hull.
The last time these two sides met, though, it was Oxford who came out on top with a narrow 1-0 win.
George Revell (Blues Focus): Birmingham City will be looking to continue their unbeaten start to the season when Oxford United visit St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park on Saturday afternoon.
Blues have made a bright start to life back in the Championship, coming within minutes of victory over title-favourites Ipswich Town on the opening night before netting two late goals to stun Blackburn Rovers in front of over 7,000 travelling fans at Ewood Park.
Former Blues boss Gary Rowett brings his Oxford side to B9 after two defeats in their opening two league matches.
With momentum on their side and a sold-out crowd behind them, I see no reason why Blues can’t claim all three points again on Saturday.
Prediction: 3-1
Daniel Oliveira (Playmaker Stats editor): Oxford United are still chasing their first league win of the season, but they’ve got a tricky trip to Birmingham coming up on Saturday.
The U’s slipped up against Portsmouth on the opening day, then were cruelly beaten by a stoppage-time goal at Hull in their last outing.
Both Championship defeats have been narrow ones so far, but Saturday’s clash with Birmingham looks like a really tough test, and the visitors may well find themselves on the wrong end of a more decisive scoreline.
