Leroy Sané has confirmed he withdrew from the Germany squad on Friday to attend the birth of his daughter.
The German FA announced on Friday that the winger had been allowed to leave the team camp for “personal reasons” and would miss Sunday’s friendly clash with Peru.
After Sané was reportedly dropped by Pep Guardiola from Manchester City’s win over Newcastle last weekend due to a lack of application in training, many speculated that the 22-year-old had also fallen out with Die Mannschaft boss Joachim Löw.
But writing via his official Twitter account on Saturday, Sané confirmed that he has now become a father for the first time.
“Incredibly happy to let you know about the birth of my daughter last night. Mother and child are doing fine,” wrote the former Schalke man.
“Special thank you to the DFB and my coach Jogi Löw for letting me leave to be at my daughter’s birth. Of course I’ll keep my fingers crossed for the team tomorrow!”
After being controversially left out of Germany’s World Cup squad, Sané was recalled by Löw for the current international break and he came off the bench in the final minutes of Thursday’s 0-0 UEFA Nations League draw with France.
He will now be hoping to force his way back into Guardiola’s reckoning in time for the Premier League champions’ meeting with Fulham next Saturday.
