On Saturday, Sky Sports reported that Newcastle United had met RB Leipzig’s valuation on Benjamin Sesko.

The broadcaster saying that the formal bid was for a guaranteed €75m (approx £65.5m), plus potential future add-ons of another €5m (approx £4.4m), around £70m in total.

That Sky Sports report had swiftly followed on from media in Slovenia stating early on Saturday morning, that the 22 year old striker had allegedly chosen Newcastle United over Manchester United.

Benjamin Sesko was then left out of the matchday squad (see below) for Leipzig’s final home friendly of pre-season, which they lost 2-1 to Italian side Atalanta.

Keith Downie covers Newcastle United for Sky Sports and he has given an update on the situation.

Whilst some media have claimed that Newcastle United’s £70m offer had been rejected by RB Leipzig, Downie says that is not the case.

Instead, the man from Sky Sports says that his information is that RB Leipzig and Newcastle remain are in talks over some of the payment terms of that offer. So the offer hasn’t been accepted yet either BUT it is how/when the money would be paid, the structure of the deal, that still hasn’t been agreed, not the total amount of money in the package offered by NUFC to the Bundesliga club.

As for  Benjamin Sesko himself, Sky Sports say their sources tell them that the striker is open to both Newcastle United and Manchester United and if both clubs reached agreement with RB Leipzig on the transfer fee, he would make the decision in the coming days.

Sesko’s agent flew into Leipzig on Saturday night to help with these talks reaching a successful conclusion for the striker in signing for a new club. Wherever Benjamin Sesko does end up going, it sounds like it will only be days at the most before we get to that end result.

The Mag report – Saturday 2 August 2025:

Sky Sports reported on Saturday morning that Newcastle United had met RB Leipzig’s valuation on Benjamin Sesko.

The broadcaster saying that their information was that the formal offer made to the Bundesliga club was for a total of €80m (approx £70m), the level of financial compensation the German club had told competing clubs they would accept for their star striker.

Sky Sports revealing that on the table is a guaranteed €75m (approx £65.5m), plus potential future add-ons of another €5m (approx £4.4m).

This Sky Sports update swiftly following on from media in Slovenia stating early on Saturday morning, that the 22 year old striker had chosen Newcastle United over Manchester United.

Now on Saturday afternoon, Benjamin Sesko has been left out of the RB Leipzig matchday squad for the final home friendly of pre-season.

RB Leipzig are facing Serie A side Atalanta and the Bundesliga club have confirmed that Benjamin Sesko isn’t involved today.

The official RB Leipzig social media revealing this as the starting eleven against Atalanta and then listing the 13 on the subs bench, then those not in today’s squad…

Whilst media in Slovenia are saying Benjamin Sesko has decided to join Newcastle United, some journalists in the UK are claiming he still hasn’t chosen between United and Man U.

What doesn’t appear to be in dispute now is that Newcastle United have met Leipzig’s valuation on the striker and the fact he has been left out totally from this final home friendly of pre-season, strongly suggests Benjamin Sesko is going to move ahead of the new season, whether that is to St James’ Park or wherever…

Xavi Simons is also left out of today’s matchday squad, as he is also very much expected to leave RB Leipzig in the coming days, with Chelsea his most likely destination.
