Leicester City’s interim head coach Jennifer Foster says that the club’s search for a new manager is entering the final stages.

The Foxes have been without a permanent manager since sacking former boss Willie Kirk last month following an internal review. Kirk stepped back to assist the club with their internal process in early March, leaving assistant Foster in interim charge.

Foster has overseen Leicester City’s last eight matches, however, she has confirmed that Saturday’s game against Liverpool will be her last as interim boss with the club closing in on a potential new manager.

“The club are in the process of hiring a new manager and the process is coming to the final stages which is great,” Foster said when speaking in a Leicester City press conference. “The manager that they’re looking for is one with ambition and I’m really excited to work with them.

“This will be my last game in charge. I have loved it but I’m really excited to work with the new manager that comes in.”

Leicester City have recorded just four league wins this season and could end the campaign as low as tenth in the Barclays Women’s Super League table. Foster says that the club are disappointed with their league ranking, although recent performances have generally been good.

She said “I take great pride in what I do. There’s a lot of pride in having led this team for the last couple of months. Of course, it hasn’t been without its challenges.

“We’ve been unfortunate with some of the results but the real pleasing thing for me is that we’ve had the performances. Ultimately, games come down to small details and I think that has been the same throughout the entire season. We’ve fallen short of where we’ve wanted to be in the last couple of months, added onto that already from the start of the season.

“We are a little bit disappointed in the position that we are in but I do think it bodes well for next season. We have real talent at this club and in this team.”

Going on to discuss this weekend’s fixture against Liverpool, Foster said that she is expecting a closely-contested encounter.

She said “They’re really in form and they’ve shown that, so it’s going to be a really tough game. Although we’ve beaten them twice this season, they have a lot to play for because they’re still fighting Manchester United for fourth. We are also fighting to finish higher in the league.

“I want to say it’ll be a close test because I don’t want the game to run away with them. I think we will make sure that doesn’t happen. I think it’ll be fast, ferocious and it’ll come down to small details, so we will have to be really on it.”
