After a 2-0 win against London City on Sunday, Leicester City Women have officially been crowned FA Women’s Championship title winners for the first time.
Second half goals from Sam Tierney and Natasha Flint were enough to see the team earn promotion to the Women’s Super League.
Having only been recognised as a fully professional club in August of 2020, their rise to top-flight football has been quick.
Leicester finished sixth last season but Jonathan Morgan’s side have managed to turn their fortunes around and dominated the Championship this year to obtain this historic achievement.
After Sunday’s result, the club extends their winning streak to 12 consecutive matches. In total, they have won 15 out of 18 league fixtures so far with only one loss and still have two matches to go.
Looking at the standings in the Women’s Super League, multiple teams still have the potential to drop into the relegation zone.
The Foxes could be replacing any one of Birmingham City, West Ham, Bristol City or Aston Villa next season.
