Leicester City have been linked with a move for Harry Toffolo in the event that Victor Kristiansen departs the club this summer.

According to Alan Nixon, the Foxes have shortlisted the full-back as a potential replacement for the Dane.

Toffolo is currently available as a free agent following his exit from Nottingham Forest earlier in the summer.

The full-back spent three years at the City Ground, but made a total of just 46 league appearances in that time, including only featuring four times in the previous campaign.

Leicester City full-back preference claim

When asked about the prospect of Toffolo signing, FLW’s Leicester fan pundit Louchlainn Martin claimed that it’s not a move that would upset him.

However, he believes it would be better for the club to target someone from the European market that might be cheap and young, who could have potential to develop with the Foxes.

“So I’ve seen the rumours that are suggesting Leicester are interested in Harry Toffolo if Victor Kristiansen leaves,” Martin told Football League World.

“It is an underwhelming signing, there’s nothing to get upset about, it is a free deal.

“Obviously, it’s all dependent on the wages, can we get him in on a decent wage? Are we going to save money on Victor Kristiansen’s wages?

“That’s also something that needs to be taken into account.

“I would much rather Leicester go out there and find a left-back, maybe in the European market who is cheap, who is young, has got room for growth, for potential.

“But it’s nothing really to get upset about if we did go for Harry Toffolo.”

Leicester’s full-back options could also be enough

Martin also warned Leicester that they may already have the options they need to replace Kristiansen within the squad, naming multiple players that could take up that role instead of Toffolo.

“I would say though that some of the players at Leicester City are already more exciting, we’ve got Woyo Coulibaly, who we signed from Italy in January who can play on the left and right,” he continued.

“We’ve got Luke Thomas already at the club, albeit not really a great replacement.

“But we have Bade Aluko, who is an 18-year-old who has really impressed.

“He made his debut for the club against Bournemouth on the last day of the season, and he did a good job.

“He’s featured in pre-season at centre-back, although he is naturally a full-back, so there’s another option.

“So I do think we have players already at the club that could fill the gap that Victor Kristiansen would leave.

“But if the club were adamant at getting another number in, then Harry Toffolo is not the worst of options in my opinion.”

Leicester have yet to make any signings this summer, with the club preparing for life back in the Championship.

Leicester may be better off gambling on their current options

Leicester may have a limited budget this summer, and should perhaps look to strengthen in more important areas of the team.

Giving players like Aluko an opportunity to prove themselves in the Championship could have greater long-term potential than bringing in someone like Toffolo.

While the 29-year-old may now have Premier League experience, his performances in the last couple of seasons have shown he might not be capable of playing at that level anymore.
