Leeds United want to sign Lyon goalkeeper Lucas Perri | OneFootball

Leeds United are keen on signing Lyon goalkeeper Lucas Perri this summer, according to French outlet L’Equipe.

The Elland Road club want an upgrade on Illan Meslier following some underwhelming displays from the 25-year-old in recent months, and the Brazilian has emerged as a realistic target.

Perri was recently described by Lyon manager Paulo Fonseca as the ‘best in the world’ after some fine performances, and Leeds could do with such a goalie between the sticks.

The Whites could get to sign the 27-year-old on a cut-price deal as the French club are under pressure to raise finances after the DNCG relegated them to Ligue 2 due to poor financial management.

However, Leeds could face competition from Saudi Pro League club Neom for his services, with the Middle East club ready to put more than €15 million on the table to bid for him.

They have yet to make an offer for Perri, but he is said to be interested in the project given the huge salary on offer should they come calling.

The Whites would be taking a huge risk with their chances of holding on to their Premier League status if they opt to stick with Meslier in goal next season, and a quality replacement has to be brought in.

The Lyon star would be perfect for the job, with his shot-stopping reflexes and ability to save close-range shots qualities Leeds manager Daniel Farke could do with in a goalie.

Perri has yet to play for Brazil but he received his first call-up in September 2023 for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification games against Bolivia and Peru, and was also invited in March.

A move to the Premier League could boost his chances of forcing his way into the plans of new Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which could give Leeds a chance in the pursuit of his services.
