Leeds United are likely to stick with Daniel Farke next season if they do not win the playoffs, with the German not given promotion in his first season as a target when he arrived at Elland Road, according to the Athletic.

Farke’s Leeds came off the rails towards the end of the regular Championship season and lost the chance to go up automatically.

They have now slipped into the playoffs and will start their promotion bid afresh away at Norwich City in the first leg of their semi-final tie this weekend.

If Leeds do not go up then some criticism could come Farke’s way, not least due to the financial advantage that the Whites enjoy over most sides in the Championship.

Farke though would be likely to survive and he was not set promotion as a fixed target for this season.

The German would look to go again in the new campaign, albeit their would be financial pain for Leeds from not going up.

The club’s parachute payment would drop from £44m to £35m.

And there would be pressure for Leeds to make player sales, with several of their top stars, including Crysencio Summerville, attracting interest from the Premier League.
