Leeds United held a meeting with the representatives of Leicester City attacker Bilal El Khannouss yesterday, according to Sky Sports Switzerland journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

Leeds made it clear they are ready to pay his £24.5 million release clause to bring him to the Elland Road club this summer.

The Whites have missed out on Feyenoord attacker Igor Paixao to Marseille, and they have now moved on to El Khannouss.

The 21-year-old Belgian-Moroccan played in 32 Premier League games last term, weighing in with two goals and three assists, and Leeds could do with his quality and experience as they prepare for life back in the Premier League.

He is expected to leave Leicester after they got relegated to the Championship, and he wants to remain in the English top-flight, with the Whites offering him an opportunity.

However, Leeds are not the only one keen on recruiting the services of Khannouss, with Crystal Palace also interested in him as they prepare for potential life without Eberechi Eze.

While the Morocco international is primarily a left winger, he can also feature as a number 10 behind a striker, with his dribbling and ability to hold on to the ball under pressure qualities that manager Daniel Farke could do with in an attacker.

Palace have yet to table any offer for the Foxes star as they need to sell Eze first before making a move for him, and while the Whites have not either, they appear ready to trigger his release clause as soon as possible.

Leeds thought they had sealed a deal for Paixao after receiving emails from Feyenoord and his representatives suggesting respective terms had been agreed last Saturday.

However, the Brazilian was keen to play in the Champions League and did not hesitate to move to the Ligue 1 club after they agreed terms with the Dutch club.

They will now be desperate to get a deal for Khannouss over the line and prevent another disappointment, and more updates are expected to emerge in the coming days.
