When Leeds United gained promotion to the Premier League in 2020, multiple signings were made to have an impact instantly, but one has had a fantastic effect four years on that could return the club millions.

Crysencio Summerville was a £1.3m purchase from Feyenoord and was among many arrivals in that summer of 2020. He joined alongside the likes of Raphinha, Rodrigo, Helder Costa and Illan Meslier.

However, while the majority of those players are now departed, Summerville's cheap move is now set to make Leed's United millions if they choose to sell him in the upcoming window.

Summerville's impressive season

The Dutchman has had his best season to date in 2023/24, helping Leeds challenge for an instant promotion back to the Premier League following their relegation from the Premier League.

In 43 games across all competitions this season, he has scored eighteen goals and registered nine assists.

Predominantly playing off of either the left or right wing, the stunning total of goals he has scored this season places him at the top of Leeds United's top scorers list.

Away from his on-paper stats, some of Summerville's more hidden stats enable him to be ranked as one of the division's best players this term.

According to his season performance page on FotMob, his shooting, passing and possession stats all make for incredible reading.

Notable stats include his 1154 successful passes, which rank him above 99% of other Championship players, and his 108 chances created, a stat where he is top of the tree.

Award winner at season's end

It was announced on Sunday at the EFL awards night that Summerville had, thanks to his amazing performance this season, been crowned Championship player of the year.

He managed to beat Leicester City's Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who has been a key player for the Foxes this season, and 24-goal Championship top goalscorer Sammie Szmodics of Blackburn to the award.

Speaking to BBC Sport upon winning the accolade, Summerville said, "I like the fans, the atmosphere, the intensity, everything really, as young kid I had a dream to play in the Premier League and in England.

"We always believed [we could chase down Leicester] otherwise we wouldn't be in the position we are now, we have to keep doing what we do, and we have three more finals to reach our plan [of achieving promotion]."

Summer interest will be high for Leeds star

With the recently reported financial struggles from Kieran Maguire, Leeds may have vultures looming around ready to poach their star player this season.

To make sure that any sale maximises profit and regains millions on or simply ward off those clubs looking to sign the Dutchman, the Whites have reportedly placed a £45m price tag on Summerville.

If they want to do their chances of keeping the Dutchman the world of good, the club from Elland Road will have to hope they gain promotion to the Premier League, as Summerville has arguably shown, he is too good to remain in the second tier.

In a recent transfer update, reliable football journalist Fabrizio Romano said, "I’ve been asked by some fans about links with Liverpool and others, and for sure many, really many clubs are monitoring Crysencio Summerville ahead of this summer.

At the moment, I’m told there’s nothing advanced with anyone, but interest will be there."

Therefore, the Whites will have to hope they can put some stagnant form to bed, having not won since their 3-1 triumph over Hull City on Monday 1st April, in order to overtake both Leicester City and Ipswich Town and ensure an automatic spot back to the Premier League.

If they don't gain one of those two automatic positions, and fail to win the playoffs, then Leeds United may see the last of the Dutchman in their final home game against Southampton, and wave goodbye to a player who arrived as an unknown, and has grown to be a brilliant jackpot and star player.
