Rafael Leão has admitted he wasn’t going for the target against Genoa when he scored his great goal, but refused to give details about his renewal.

Leão came off the bench for Milan last night in the 62′ minute and brought life to a struggling side, helping them overcome Genoa in 120 minutes and advance to the Coppa Italia quarterfinal.

Leo Østigård (16′) and Olivier Giroud (74′) scored in regular time with great headers, but the goal of the night came in the 103′ minute when Leão found the net from an improbable angle. Afterwards Milan scored another goal, with Alexis Saelemaekers setting the final result: 3-1 at San Siro against Andriy Shevchenko’s side.

“I wanted to cross, because we have players like Oli [Giroud] and Ibra who are so good in the air,” Rafa told Sportmediaset at the end of the match. “If I go 1v1 and I don’t have the room to shoot, I go for the cross and that’s what I was doing there.”

On the game and performance: “Whether I start or come off the bench, I always try to give my contribution to the team. I am happy that I managed to score and we won the game today.”

On renewing his contract: “I don’t know what will happen… I am happy at Milan, it’s a great club and I love the city, so we’ll see. It’s still early days.”
