Derek McGregor of the Scottish Sun has updated Celtic fans on Eddie Howe’s position as the Englishman continues to be linked with the Celtic Park vacancy. Celtic are looking for a new manager after Neil Lennon left last month and one of the names being touted is the ex-Bournemouth boss Howe. Yet speaking to Mark Wilson on The Celtic Huddle Podcast, McGregor says that Howe is keeping his options open going into the close season.

“I think Eddie Howe is keeping an eye on a number of Premier League positions down south, I think possibly that’s the reason why he’s not ready to commit to Celtic if he has been approached or sounded out.

“I think Celtic are entitled to say they are massive club if there’s hesitation with a potential candidate, they would have a right to say ‘that’s not what we need’, we instinctively not only want people to be excited but jump at the chance.”

The 43-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Celtic Park as well as Newcastle United and Crystal Palace but so far, the Englishman is yet to make a decision on his next job.

Howe’s stock is still high considering the impact he had with Bournemouth. Although Howe has recently made appearances on MNF as well as MOTD. These appearances on TV prove that he is actively touting himself for a return to management, something that we have seen in the past with Brendan Rodgers, Jose Mourinho and David Moyes all taking a trip to the studio between stints in the dugout. Howe is an impressive candidate but the longer the club wait, the more suitors will emerge as their situation changes.

As it stands, Celtic need to mount an astonishing rebuild and Dominic McKay will know that he is walking into an immensely difficult job; however, a manager like Howe in an elite footballing operation with a scouting overhaul and a Director of Football can catapult Celtic back to the league title next season.

Celtic are still looking for a new manager but as we look to the re-opening of society, we are getting closer to the appointment of a new manager. Enzo Maresca has been linked with the job recently as has Roy Keane, meaning that there are names being considered and weighed up ahead of mounting a challenge on all fronts next season.
