Despite being under contract with Lorient until 2024, Enzo Le Fée has announced his intention of moving on at the end of the 2022-23 season, citing the absence of an extension offer from his boyhood club.

Enzo Le Fée has long been the next big thing at FC Lorient. After signing for the club's pre-youth academy at just eight years of age, the now-23-year-old play-maker has indicated that he is looking to leave the Brittany club come the end of the current season. 'It's time'

"It's time for me to leave," the France U21 international told regional daily Le Télégramme on Monday after telling L'Équipe on Saturday: "I am someone who likes challenges, risks too. I want to show that I am capable of playing at the highest level." Earlier in the season, it seemed that Lorient were ready to play at the highest level under exciting new coach Regis Le Bris. An impressive five-match winning run in September and October had Les Merlus sitting as high as second place - spurring hopes of an unheralded European finish - but Lorient have blown hot and cold since then and slipped out of the race for a top-five finish.

However, this is not what has convinced Le Fée to leave the club - rather, it was the absence of a concrete extension offer from the club that changed the perspective of one of the club's most prominent players.

'Now I don't expect anything from the club' "I have a special bond with the club and that's why I wanted to extend my contract at the start of the season," Le Fée, who has four Ligue 1 Uber Eats goals in 28 appearances this season, continued. "I waited for a contract offer from FC Lorient until December. It never came. Now I don't expect anything from the club and I won't extend my contract. I hope to leave this summer so that my transfer will bring money to FC Lorient." A sublimely skilled attacking midfielder/playmaker, Le Fée could well find plenty of suitors in France's top flight next season, but there should also be plenty of interest from across the Channel, where Leicester City have reportedly been keeping an eye on the France youth International.
