Igor Tudor’s Lazio will be looking to give their fans something to smile about after the derby when they host Serie B bound Salernitana.
The Serie A clash between Lazio and Salernitana kicks off at 20:45 local time on Friday 12th April at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
Lazio find themselves in a strange spot in the remaining weeks of the season, looking incredibly unlikely to achieve any form of European qualification. Whilst the team showed some positives in their opening game under Igor Tudor, edging out a 1-0 win over Juventus, things have been tough since.
The Biancocelesti suffered a difficult 2-0 loss to Juventus in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final tie last week and then fell amidst the tensions in the Derby della Capitale with Daniele De Rossi’s Roma, losing 1-0 after a Gianluca Mancini winner in the first half.
As already highlighted by Tudor, the remaining weeks of the season are essentially the foundations of the new project in the Italian capital, letting the Croatian tactician know which players are suitable for his system and which would be better replaced in the upcoming Summer Transfer Window. They currently sit 8th in the Serie A table, nine points back of rivals Roma in fifth place
Salernitana have been simply dire in Serie A this term and have essentially been condemned to Serie B already, sitting rock bottom of the table with 15 points, 12 behind 17th place Hellas Verona. The Granata have only picked up two wins across their last 31 league games.
Amusingly, one of Salernitana’s two wins this campaign came against Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio in late November, a 2-1 win after second-half goals from Grigoris Kastanos and Antonio Candreva, nullifying Ciro Immobile’s first-half penalty.
The Campania outfit have only picked up three points across their last 13 Serie A matches, drawing Torino 0-0, Udinese 1-1 and Sassuolo 2-2.
