Bournemouth have reportedly set their sights on Lazio defender Mario Gila as they’re still seeking a competent replacement for Dean Huijsen. The Cherries have recently sold the former Juventus youngster to Real Madrid on a deal worth £50 million. Hence, they now have a significant gap to fill at the back.
According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Bournemouth are interested in Gila’s services, but Lazio aren’t open to selling the 24-year-old who is tipped to play a key role under Maurizio Sarri. It should also be noted that Real Madrid have a 50% sell-on fee, so the Biancocelesti aren’t willing to sell the Spaniard for anything less than €50 million.
Moreover, Il Messaggero (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) adds that the Aquile are keen to renew the defender’s contract, as the current deadline is set for June 2027. Therefore, Lazio sporting director Angelo Fabiani held a meeting with Gila’s representatives on Thursday, but the club’s dire financial situation is preventing the two parties from reaching a definitive agreement.
Reports on Thursday claimed that Lazio won’t be allowed to make new signings this summer due to their poor financial figures. Although the club quashed these rumors in a public statement, the situation remains highly concerning.
