The Wearsiders are unbeaten in their last four Championship games and have just made it into the fourth round of the FA Cup, turning the game around from 1-0 to win 2-1 in the dying minutes of the clash.

Tony Mowbray will be hoping his side can take their heroics from their last-minute cup win into the Championship, as they prepare to face Swansea City this weekend.

This January transfer window may be an important couple of weeks for Mowbray and Sunderland, as they will want to add to their ranks and hopefully improve further on their league standings in the remaining games of the season.

Here at FLW, we have taken a look at the latest transfer news at Sunderland…

Sam Surridge update

Sunderland have been linked with a move for Sam Surridge in recent days, as the Wearsiders look to bolster to their attacking options this month.

However, it is now being reported by The Athletic, that Surridge would prefer to stay at Nottingham Forest and fight for his place in the team, rather than secure a move away.

Surridge arrived at the City Ground in this same transfer window last season after a mixed bag of performances at Stoke City. The striker played an important role in the remainder of the season for Forest and helped guide Steve Cooper’s men to the Premier League.

However, now a division higher, the striker has found his playing time somewhat limited. He has made 10 appearances in the league so far, with many of these coming as late cameos off the bench.

Forest seem to be well stocked in the attacking area this season, and that is before they bring any new additions in this month. Therefore, a move for Surridge seemed possible this month however, now a blow to Sunderland it seems the striker is more keen on staying at Forest for the rest of the season.

Considering recalling winger from loan spell

Sunderland are believed to be considering recalling winger Jack Diamond from his current loan spell at Lincoln City, that is according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The 22-year-old has been producing eye-catching performances this season for the Imps; he has managed eight goals and two assists to date, and that has made him an important player in Lincoln’s season.

The Black Cats have had several attacking options at the club this season in the likes of Amad Diallo, Ellis Simms, Ross Stewart, and Patrick Roberts. However, the Black Cats have recently seen Simms return to his parent club Everton and that has now meant Sunderland are somewhat light up front.

Therefore, Sunderland are said to be keeping their options open and while Lincoln would like to keep hold of Diamond for the rest of the season, the Black Cats do have an option to bring him back to the Stadium of Light this month as this update reports.
