It has been an eventful day on the Bryan Mbeumo front, but Manchester United can breathe a sigh of relief, at least temporarily.

Over the past week or so, the Red Devils emerged as the ultimate favourites in the race for the Cameroonian’s services, placing themselves well ahead of the competition.

The winger, who delighted Premier League fans by scoring 20 goals for Brentford this season, had other suitors in the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle, but it was Man Utd who won his favour despite the lack of European football next season.

Nevertheless, the Reds’ first offer of a combined £55 million failed to convince the Bees who set their asking price at £70 million, while Fabrizio Romano believes an agreement could be found at £60-65 million.

Tottenham enter the fray for Bryan Mbeumo

In the previous days, the landscape has drastically changed with Thomas Frank leaving Brentford to become Tottenham’s new manager.

As reported by Sky Sports earlier on Friday, the Danish manager is keen to reunite with Mbeumo in North London, while the winger is ‘intrigued’ by the prospect. The source revealed that Spurs opened talks with Brentford in the hopes of overtaking Man Utd in the race for the Cameroonian star.

Man United still in the lead for Mbeumo

Nevertheless, Sky have now issued a new update via their Man United correspondent, Dharmesh Sheth, who insists that the Red Devils remain in the driving seat, as Mbeumo is still ‘leaning towards’ a move to Old Trafford.

The source thus expects MUFC to submit a new offer for the left-footed winger, and their fans will be urging INEOS to be quick about it, as they wouldn’t want to lose their edge.

Mbeumo started his career in France with Troyes, before moving to Brentford in 2019. He is currently tied to the Bees with a contract expiring in June 2026, with an option for another year.
