Forget Gyokeres: INEOS have ‘resumed talks’ with 151-goal tornado who favours Premier League move

After Arsenal pipped their noses in front of Manchester United in the race for Viktor Gyokeres, INEOS chiefs have set their sights on an alternative option.

Indeed, the Red Devils — according to Footmercato —  have reportedly ‘resumed talks’ with Victor Osimhen in hopes of finally welcoming their long-standing target to the ranks at Old Trafford.

The Nigerian international will be on the move this summer, given that he left Napoli on loan last summer on bitter terms following a fiery fallout with Antonio Conte.

His spell in Turkey was, unsurprisingly, hugely successful. Osimhen returned a whopping 37 goals and eight assists in the 41 appearances he made across all competitions, and rounded off 2024/2025 having added a Super Lig title and Turkish Cup to his honours list.

Alas, the Istanbul outfit are desperate to keep hold of their newfound talisman beyond the expiration of his loan contract, though they are unable to meet not only his wage demands but also Napoli’s price tag — expected to be in the region of €70 million (£59.5m).

Additionally, another loan would not benefit Napoli, who are keen to sanction his exit permanently and recuperate some funds before he enters the final 12 months of his deal on June 30.

If not Osimhen, who?

Whether United would fork out the fees necessary to sign Osimhen in the coming months remains to be seen.

Key decision-makers will be wary that prolific centre-forward options are few and far between, and United have already suffered an early blow after first-choice Liam Delap opted to sign for Chelsea last month.

The side’s failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League has proven detrimental in their approach to certain targets; it’s also thought to be the reason Gyokeres is favouring the Gunners over a reunion with Ruben Amorim.
