Latest Sheffield United contract news & a look to this summer’s recruitment | OneFootball

Sheffield United are set to confirm their retained list ahead of their final Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur at Bramall Lane on Sunday afternoon.

According to reports from Alan Nixon, the Blades will part ways with Wes Foderingham, Max Lowe and Jordan Amissah. Meanwhile, The Star have claimed Oliver Norwood will also depart Bramall Lane after a successful six years at the club. Another modern day Blades legend, George Baldock, will say farewell to S2 as he looks set to sign for Greek Super League team Panathinaikos.

The players that are set to be retained are Jayden Bogle, Ben Osborn, and Rhys Norrington-Davies who have had clauses in their contracts exercised, Nixon stated.

Information is yet to surface regarding the futures of Adam Davies, John Egan, Daniel Jebbison and Oli McBurnie.

Supporters have been awaiting the contract news regarding Jebbison for a while after Chris Wilder publicly expressed their has been a strong deal put to the 20-year-old. However, that was over a week ago now and some fans believe it has dragged on too long, thus meaning he is set to reject fresh terms with the Blades.

Next season’s squad is going to look very different indeed; if you factor in the sale of Cameron Archer and the likely sale of Anel Ahmedhodzic and Vinicius Souza, as well as the loan players returning to their parent clubs, the Blades may yet see 16 players depart the club.

This is a concern because their are also plenty of rumours circulating that Sheffield United could find it hard to keep hold of both Oli Arblaster and Gustavo Hamer this summer.

The Blades are looking at having to bring in an extraordinary amount of new players, and they will have to bed in quickly over pre-season; United won’t want to begin next season with a struggle given they are already starting next campaign on -2 points.

The Blades should predominantly look at experienced Championship players this summer

That is why I think Chris Wilder and the new recruitment team will be looking to fetch in experienced Championship players such as the likes of: Luke Ayling, Lewis O’Brien, Alex Mowatt and Alan Browne. The more seasoned at this level, the more equipped they will be to adapt to fresh surroundings.

Sheffield United can’t run the risk of signing a bulk of players from foreign countries e.g. Anis Slimane, Benie Traore, Vinicius Souza and Yasser Larouci, and hope they can adapt to the English game. They don’t have time for that.

While the likes of Ayling, O’Brien, Mowatt and Browne aren’t Premier League standard, in my view their profiles would certainly help to steady the ship and can provide invaluable knowledge to some of the youngsters in their positions.

Along with the experienced players though, Sheffield United must utilise loans efficiently. And by efficient I don’t just mean: make sure they fit the structure – I mean: they must be an end goal to it. For example, the Blades will be one of the favourites to sign Liam Delap on loan this summer, put an option in his contract where United can choose to sign him for £10m if they gain promotion to the Premier League.
