Ipswich Town may be unbeaten in their last six League One matches, but they are struggling to put some teams away and as a result their hopes of the play-offs are fading.

Sitting in ninth position in the third tier, the Tractor Boys are six points behind Sunderland, who occupy the final spot of the top six currently.

And if they are going to climb into the play-off spots then Kieran McKenna’s side are going to have to turn some of the recent draws into three points.

The Suffolk side have had to share the spoils with MK Dons, Cheltenham Town and Morecambe in the last few weeks, but there have also been wins against Gillingham, Doncaster Rovers and Burton Albion in that time.

Ipswich Town were founded in 1879. True or false?

True False

They come up against a Fleetwood Town side this weekend though that were comprehensively defeated by high-flying Wigan Athletic in midweek, but it’s a long journey for Ipswich to contend with and that may end up playing a factor in the result.

There are only two absentees from the regular first-team squad for the clash with the Cod Army, with Kyle Edwards and Lee Evans both missing out.

Edwards suffered a quad injury in February that is keeping him on the sidelines, whilst Evans still has a knee injury and is not back training with the team yet, although McKenna confirmed he’s still able to do gym work for the time being.

Left-back Matt Penney has shaken off a knock to be available but youngster Tyreece Simpson hasn’t been so fortunate.

The 20-year-old, who spent the first half of the season on loan at Swindon Town, scored twice in the under-23’s on Monday against Swansea City and would have been hoping for a first inclusion in the matchday squad this season.

But an injury suffered late on against the Swans means that he won’t get that chance just yet.

On what he expects from this weekend’s opposition, McKenna told the club’s official media team: “They’ve got a good record at home, over the last four games they’ve had MK Dons, Plymouth, Rotherham and Cambridge and they’re unbeaten in those games.

“It’s a tough place to go, especially at home their record is good – the travel and the conditions make it a challenge but also a team who are fighting for their lives and they have some threats.

“They were 3-0 up last week at half-time against Portsmouth so that tells you that they’ve got goals in their team, they’ve scored a good amount all through the season and I’m sure they’re going to try and come out firing and go for what would be a big result for them.

“But our focus is very much on ourselves, we need to get our performance right, our mindset right and do the right things and if we do that more often than not we’re going to come away with the points.”
