Latest: €25m asking price should mean plenty of interest in 21 year old Chelsea talent

Carney Chukwuemeka’s future remains unclear, and his flirtation with Borussia Dortmund continues.

After 6 months on loan there which went well, the German club looked relatively interested in signing him. But the asking price Chelsea had for him made a move difficult. The midfielder extended his stay for the duration of the Club World Cup campaign in the USA, where he featured, but the quotes which came from the major figures at Dortmund always made it sound unlikely that they would have the finances to make a permanent deal happen.

They certainly weren’t willing to trigger the €35m clause in the midfielder’s loan deal to make the move permanent.

Dortmund and Chelsea both want the same thing

As time passes, though, the connection just won’t go away. Chukwuemeka doesn’t seem any closer to moving anywhere else, and the German giants’ interest remains strong. Various statements they’ve made since the end of the season make it clear that they’re still keen.

The problem is basically that Chelsea aren’t interested in loaning out the midfielder out again. They want to sell, and Dortmund don’t have the money to make that happen now.

Chelsea’s asking price lowers – Dortmund could finally consider a deal

That could be about to change, however. According to a report today from Get Football News Germany, Chelsea apparently could be willing to lower their asking price to €25m. That brings things far closer to a reasonable fee for Dortmund. The €40m the Blues wanted a year ago was failing to attract any interest.

Still just 21, there’s so much talent in Chukwuemeka, but the injury issues that meant Chelsea haven’t been able to trust him in the first team have also put off potential suitors. At this price, we expect more than a few interested parties.
