Lampard, Gerrard and Parker linked with England u21 job | OneFootball

Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Scott Parker are under consideration to become the next manager of England’s u21 side, if current manager Lee Carsley steps down from the role.

Carsley is understood to be contemplating a return to club football and could leave his role this summer, with the Football Association set to compile a list of potential replacements.

According to the Daily Mirror, the FA will consider a trio of ex-England internationals for the position should Carsley step down.

Carsley is expected to lead the Young Lions into the u-21 European Championships in the summer before making a decision over his future after the tournament.

Lampard, Gerrard and Parker have endured mixed spells since moving into management, but there is reportedly a ‘willingness and determination’ to integrate a young English coach into the national set-up as the FA develop a succession plan to Gareth Southgate.

Southgate followed a similar route into the senior England job, having spent three years in charge of the u21 side before stepping up to the senior position in 2016. The 52-year-old’s previous managerial experience had been an underwhelming spell at former club Middlesborough.

Lampard and Gerrard are each out of work, following their dismissals at Everton and Aston Villa respectively this season. Parker is also available after the former Bournemouth and Fulham boss was sacked at Belgian side Club Brugge last week.
