In a recent interaction with ESPN, Barcelona’s superstar Lamine Yamal has opened up about his rapid rise to prominence, notably talking about his ambition and how he enjoys the limelight.
At just 17, Yamal has become the shining beacon for the Barcelona side, having already racked up 13 goals and 20 assists in all competitions this season.
One would expect Yamal to continue playing a key role for Barcelona, especially as they look to secure a historic treble.
Speaking of treble, Yamal talked about the prospect of winning all the available trophies this season, stating, “I’m one of those people who have always trusted their team since the start of the season, I’ve always aimed for everything possible to win the treble.”
“You have to believe in yourself, because if you say another team will win, then why step onto the pitch in the first place? So yes, we’ll win the treble, we’re Barcelona, we’ve done it before, and we hope to do it again,” he added.
Needless to say, Yamal’s sudden breakthrough has required a lot of transition and integration as far as his personal life is concerned.
When asked about how he enjoys the limelight, the young Spaniard said, “It’s like a dream, something I’m still thinking about even now. If we reach the Champions League final, or the Copa Del Rey final, or the World Cup, it all feels like a dream.

“It’s as if I’m playing PES on the PlayStation, it’s just incredible. When I get back home, I say to myself: ‘I’ve played in a Euro final, imagine that! It’s unbelievable,'” he added.
Yamal went on to say that he is not focused on frivolous things and just wants to enjoy the way things are at the moment.
“I think I’m just trying to enjoy myself, not thinking too much about other things I don’t think too much about what I’m doing now, or what I’ll do tomorrow, or what the significance of this match is.
“Of course, I know I’m playing at Barcelona, and I realize the importance of that, but I don’t think about the pressures. I play, I enjoy, and that’s it,” he said.
Talking about his physical and mental condition, Yamal shared what he has learned since making his professional breakthrough.
“I’m doing very well. One of the things I’ve learned is how to manage myself. Many times people say: ‘Why does he stay 10 minutes without running?’. There are moments when you don’t need to run all the time.”
“You have to know how to manage yourself during the match, and throughout the season, and know what you should do during training and what you shouldn’t do. I think I’ve learned this, and honestly, I’m in a very good state, really good,” he said.
It must be noted that Yamal is reportedly being mentored by Raphinha and Marc-Andre ter Stegen, so that the forward can learn how to cope with expectations and doesn’t get overwhelmed at such a young age.
Finally, Yamal was asked about his objectives and career goals ten years down the line, when he turns 27. The youngster, though, offered a rather witty response.
“I don’t know, tough question… I think I’ll be pretty much the same as I am now, going from the Sports City to my house, and from my house to the Sports City,” he concluded.
