LaLiga have been forced to issue a statement outlining their stance on the battle between Barcelona and Lionel Messi.

The Argentine has made it clear that he wants to leave this summer and believes he can walk away for nothing.

That is due to a clause in his contract which he believed would allow him to terminate his deal and leave on a free transfer.

Messi did not arrive at Barcelona for Covid-19 testing on Sunday in the belief that he ended his contract with the club during the week.

However, LaLiga have now been forced to comment and confirmed that they are taking the Barcelona’s side in their legal wrangle with the Argentine star.

The league state that his current contract is valid until the end of 2020/21 and that the only way for him to exit will be if his release clause is met.

That clause stands at €700 million under the terms of Messi’s contract at the Camp Nou.

In addition, the statement also insisted that LaLiga will not help Messi in attempting to de-register as a player with the league without that release clause being paid.
