LaLiga president Javier Tebas took aim at Manchester United today for their involvement in the failed Super League breakaway.

Tebas, who has consistently opposed the notion of a European Super League, has now pointed the finger at the United hierarchy for their involvement in the competition.

Speaking to journalists, Tebas said he was surprised by how many English clubs were willing to sign up to the tournament, but was not shocked that United were involved.

He said: "I was surprised by some of the English clubs.

"Not so much Manchester United, as these owners have a different idea of sport, with closed leagues. In Europe, that does not exist, we have another tradition."

He added: "The most surprised by what has happened have been English club owners as they have had to apologise.

"They did not understand the culture of English football."

Tebas has declared the notion of a European Super League dead, arguing English clubs are unlikely to try and form a breakaway competition again due to the significant reaction from fans.
