Celta Vigo secured another Friday night La Liga win via the inspirational Iago Aspas as Villarreal grabbed a last gap win away at Sevilla.

Celta Vigo move into the weekend as the shock La Liga leaders with maximum points gained from their first two games of the campaign.

However, the hosts did not have it all their own way in the early stages, with Oscar Mingueza cancelling out Diego Lopez’s opener for Valencia.

Captain Aspas scored for successive Fridays as he fired the hosts ahead before the half time break in Galicia.

Aspas had the perfect chance to put the game out of reach in first half added time but the veteran forward was denied from the penalty spot.

That setback was brushed aside after the restart as Fran Beltran netted a spectacular winner with his first goal since April 2022.

Sevilla 1-2 Villarreal

There was late drama in Friday’s final game as Villarreal snatched all three points on the road at Sevilla.

All three goals on the night were stretched across an entertaining clash in Andalucia as Arnaut Danjuma put the visitors ahead inside the first 90 seconds.

Sevilla were denied an equaliser by VAR shortly after that before striker Dodi Lukebakio eventually tied the game at 1-1 just before the break.

That set the contest up perfectly for a real open battle in the second 45 minutes, as Sevilla threw everything forward for a win in front of their own fans, and VAR denied Villarreal.

However, the final say eventually belonged to the away side, as summer signing Ayoze Perez pounced on a loose ball in added time, to net his first goal since boarding the Yellow Submarine.

The two Friday winners will now face off in their final game this month  as Celta head to Castellon on August 26.
