La Liga have announced that it has launched its first major project for eSports.

With McDonald’s acquiring the naming rights of the Virtual LaLiga eSports, and in association with the Professional Videogame League (LVP), the new Spanish tournament joins the FIFA 18 Global Series on the Road to the FIFA eWorld Cup 2018.

This newly formed competition will allow for gamers in Spain to qualify for the eWorld Cup via the EA SPORTS FIFA 18 Global Series Playoffs in June. The Playoffs winner will then get a ticket to the world championship.

The competition will consist of both online and in-person stages and will include categories for PlayStation and Xbox. The first stage is set to kick-off on March 19, and the only requisite is for gamers to be at least 16 years of age. Only 32 participants will qualify for the in-person stage scheduled for April.

Whoever wins these stages will not only qualify for the Global Series Playoffs but will also secure a spot in McDonald’s organized exclusive tourney set to be composed of only 16 places at the McDonald’s Virtual LaLiga eSports final stage.

According to The ESports Observer, while this is the league’s official first project in eSports, many La Liga teams already participate in Spain’s VFO league, an 11 vs. 11 FIFA esports series.
