Barcelona star’s release clause has multiplied by 16 | OneFootball

A leading member of the defensive ranks at La Liga champions Barcelona has on Wednesday seen his release clause multiply in dramatic fashion.

The player in question? Ronald Araújo.

For those not aware, the new contract penned by Araújo earlier this year featured an interesting clause.

As much saw the Uruguayan’s release clause, for the first two weeks of July, slashed to €60 million. At the time, this was seen as a potential way out for Araújo amid a difficult campaign in Catalunya’s capital.

On Tuesday night, however, the deadline for this clause to be activated officially passed.

This means that Araújo has seen his the previous figure in his contract restored, meaning the stopper can now be considered, according to the terms of his deal, to be worth a hefty €1 billion.

His future at the Camp Nou, for the time being at least, therefore appears to be secure.
