Girona’s success story under Michel this season is quite comparable to Leicester City’s dream run in 2016 in the Premier League or Napoli’s fantastic 2022/23 Serie A season.
As we approach the halfway point of the season, the Catalan underdogs are second in La Liga, level on points with leaders Real Madrid.
One of the main protagonists in Girona’s success story this season has been Aleix Garcia, a midfield lynchpin, who has recently professed his love for Barcelona.
In a recent interview, Aleix Garcia heaped praise on Barcelona and expressed his desire to play for the Catalan giants.
“Obviously, I want to play for Barcelona. It is a club that I love and have followed since I was young,” the midfielder said (h/t Mundo Deportivo).
Although Garcia kickstarted his youth career with Villarreal, he is a Catalonian native. He was also a part of the Man City setup for a brief period, before joining Girona in 2021.
The Spanish international was linked with Barcelona briefly last year, but nothing came of it.

It must be noted that Girona will take on Barcelona in their next league game this weekend, with Aleix Garcia likely to play a key role in the contest.
A central midfielder by trade, Garcia has served as the heart of Girona’s second line of press this season.
His work ethic and productivity in the middle of the park have been crucial, with the player racking up three goals and four assists in 15 league matches.
At 26, Garcia might not be a young prodigy anymore, but he is certainly at the peak of his powers right now and the Barcelona midfielders could be in for a difficult time this weekend.
And, Sunday’s game should serve as an ideal platform for the Spaniard to showcase his skills and perhaps impress the Barça scouts.
