Kylian Mbappe has blamed himself for Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League semi-final defeat to Borussia Dortmund.

PSG lost 2-0 on aggregate to the Bundesliga side, falling to 1-0 defeats in either leg. Despite dominating possession, registering 43 shots and hitting the woodwork a staggering six times across over 180 minutes of football, Les Parisiens failed to score in the tie.

Speaking to the press after the second leg at Parc des Princes on Tuesday night, Mbappe took responsibility for PSG's inability to find the back of the net.

"I tried to help my team as best as I could but I didn't do enough," he said. "When we talk about being efficient in the boxes, I think I'm the one targeted. I'm the guy who should score goals and be decisive. When things are good, I take all the limelight and when they are not, you have to take the shadow. That's not a problem.

"The first one who should have scored tonight was me. That's life and we have to move on, me and the team.

"I don't know if they [Dortmund] were better than us. We don't need to denigrate them. In my humble opinion, they were superior in the two boxes. They came once or twice in ours and scored. We went often in theirs and we never managed to score. It's a fact.

"I don't like to talk about being unlucky. When you are good, it doesn't hit the post, it goes in. Today, we were not good enough, us the attackers."

Mbappe is expected to leave PSG this summer upon the expiry of his contract, with Real Madrid his likely destination.

His final game for the club could have come against Madrid in the Champions League final at Wembley, but Dortmund will take PSG's place instead. Madrid face Bayern Munich in the second leg of their semi-final on Wednesday, with everything to play for following a 2-2 draw at the Allianz Arena last week.
