Kylian Mbappe has confessed that his desire to become Paris Saint-Germain's all-time leading scorer contributed to his decision to sign a new contract at Parc des Princes.

The 23-year-old has 170 goals for PSG to his name and had looked set to end his tally there as Real Madrid pushed to sign him on a free transfer, only for Mbappe to surprise many by putting pen to paper on a new three-year deal.

With the drama surrounding his future now temporarily resolved, Mbappe has revealed he has his sights set on breaking the club's all-time scoring record - the 200 netted by Edinson Cavani between 2013 and 2020.

"Winning the Champions League and being PSG's all-time top scorer are part of my goals, although there are more than just those two," he told RMC Sport.

"The Champions League is a clear goal. Nothing else needs to be said to describe the Champions League. We want to win it and we have a way to win it."

He added: "This season, we were less scary, less untouchable. We want to intimidate France again, which is something we haven't done in the last two years."

Cavani reached his double century in 301 games but Mbappe is expected to improve on that, given he has 170 goals in just 216 appearances for the Ligue 1 champions. The young forward netted 39 goals last season and has hit at least 30 goals in all but one of his campaigns with PSG.

"It would be something spectacular to be PSG's top scorer," Mbappe added. "I think that if I continue doing things as I have done up to now, there will be no problems."
