Paris Saint-Germain‘s final match before the Qatar World Cup winter break could not have gone any better for them.
The Ligue 1 champions hosted Auxerre at the Parc des Princes and came away with a resounding 5-0 victory.
Kylian Mbappe, Carlos Soler, Achraf Hakimi, Renato Sanches and Hugo Ekitike were the scorers on the day for Christophe Galtier’s well-oiled machine.
The superstar attacking trio of Mbappe, Neymar and Lionel Messi also came through the game unscated, which is great news ahead of the World Cup.
Both Neymar and Messi were subbed off in the 75th minute, with Mbappe the only one to complete the full 90 minutes.
The France international performed superbly throughout the match, although there was also a rather strange incident involving him.
In the tunnel, at either half-time or at full-time, Mbappe appeared to make a rather rude gesture as he walked towards the dressing room.
We’re not quite sure who the crotch grab was aimed at, but it wasn’t exactly the best look for the 23-year-old goal machine…
Pardon, Kylian? Maybe save that kind of thing for the dressing room next time.
The Auxerre player walking parallel to Mbappe looked slightly bemused by the gesture, which is certainly understandable.
But away from the crotch grabbing, there’s no doubt that Mbappe is heading to Qatar in supreme form.
In 19 matches across all competitions with PSG in 2022/23, the former AS Monaco forward has scored 18 goals and assisted a further five.
He’s wreaked havoc in the Champions League too, bagging seven goals in just six appearances.
Mbappe’s numbers for PSG are exceptional, as they are for France.
The 2018 World Cup winner’s 59 appearances for Les Bleus have yielded 28 goals and 21 assists and he will almost certainly add to that impressive tally out in Qatar.
Even without key midfield duo Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante, France will back themselves to retain the coveted Jules Rimet trophy.
