PSG booked their spot in the semifinals of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup with a dramatic win over Bayern Munich on Saturday in Atlanta. After a tightly contested, scoreless first half, the match came alive late in the second.

Désiré Doué finally broke the deadlock in the 78th minute, putting PSG in front. Chaos soon followed, as the French side were reduced to nine men after two red cards. Despite the setback, they held firm—and even managed to extend their lead.

Ousmane Dembélé delivered the knockout blow with his first touch of the game, finishing off a dazzling solo run from Achraf Hakimi, who weaved through the Bayern defense before laying it off perfectly.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid edged past Borussia Dortmund 3-2 in a tense, back-and-forth clash. The Spanish giants came out on top but were pushed all the way.

With PSG facing Real Madrid, many are asking whether Kylian Mbappé will start this match against his former club. Despite the motivation he will have to face the Parisians, Cadena SER’s Álvaro Benito says that Mbappé should be coming off the bench, which he’s done during this Club World Cup.

“The most likely scenario is that Gonzalo will continue for now. I think Mbappé is going through a process of getting minutes and building up fitness,” Benito said regarding Xabi Alonso’s potential decision about Real Madrid’s center forward (h/t Cadena SER). “Gonzalo is doing wonderfully, so why not consider giving him continuity.”

It will be interesting to see if Xabi Alonso continues with the formula that has worked for him at the Club World Cup or understands the magnitude of this match and allows Mbappé to start.
