Kylian Mbappe had an absolute shocker in Paris Saint-Germain's clash against Montpellier on Wednesday evening.

The Frenchman was named in the starting lineup for the Ligue 1 match at Stade de la Mosson.

He had a golden opportunity to give his side the lead in the eighth minute when PSG were given a spot-kick.

Sergio Ramos was tugged to the ground by Christopher Jullien inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot.

Mbappe took responsibility with Neymar not on the pitch.

What transpired over the next few minutes were almost unbelievable.

Mbappe saw his penalty brilliantly saved by Montpellier goalkeeper, Benjamin Lecomte.

However, Mbappe was given a chance to redeem himself when VAR ruled that Lecomte had come off his line.

The 24-year-old stepped up once more but, incredibly, his effort was well saved again by Lecomte.

The ball bounced off the post and fell to Mbappe, who looked almost certain to hit the back of the net from a few yards out.

But Mbappe got his effort horribly wrong and sent the ball well over the bar.

You would expect Mbappe to score one of those three chances.

But some credit must go to Lecomte for his two stunning penalty saves.

A goal for Mbappe would have seen him go level with Folarin Balogun at the top of the Ligue 1 goal scoring charts for the 2022/23 season.

Kylian Mbappe goes off injured in PSG vs Montpellier

To make matters even worse for Mbappe, he was forced off injured in the 21st minute.

The Frenchman appeared to be troubled by a thigh issue.

Mbappe wasn't the only PSG player to limp off: Ramos was also substituted after feeling the effects of a clash of heads.

The two could be injury doubts for the first leg of their Champions League last 16 clash against Bayern Munich on February 14.
