Kylian Mbappé has hit back at former Cameroon international Benoît Assou-Ekotto, after he criticised the PSG striker for trying to help African sport.

The teenage sensation, who’s parents are from Cameroon and Algeria respectively, met with French president Emmanuel Macron and his Liberian counterpart George Weah this week.

After that meeting the young goalscorer told reporters that he would “invest all his energy” into projects that would develop sport on the continent.

Assou-Ekotto, who was born in France but played for Cameroon, took exception to that.

“These European players of African origin, who have Africa in their hearts and want to help African sport, bla bla bla, while choosing to play for a European team,” he wrote. “You make me laugh! It looks good when you have a good cause, though.”

Assou-Ekotto was infamously part of the Cameroon squad at the 2014 World Cup and head-butted teammate Benjamin Moukandjo as the imploded and finished bottom of Group A without even scoring a goal.

And in responding to the Metz defender, Mbappé was quick to point out that incident.

“These European players of African origin, who have Africa in their hearts and want to help African sport, bla bla bla, while fighting with an international teammate back in 2014…” replied Mbappe. “You make me laugh… However, these are your values.”
