Les Rouches are winless in 27 play-off matches and manager Ivan Leko remains frustrated at the number of senior players he has available. As reported by DH Sports, Leko said: “It’s difficult to prepare for a match with 12-13 players. It’s impossible to train in normal conditions to prepare for a league match. It’s a new situation for me, one that I have to learn to live with. We will have learned a lot this season, and this is one of them.”
Having not beaten their opponents in seven matches, Liège will be hoping to end another winless streak. They also sit bottom of the play-off table and have nothing left to play for. Leko adds: “We don’t really talk about enjoyment anymore given our situation. On top of that, to have fun, you have to win matches, which we’re not doing. All of this is causing enormous frustration. I can’t wait for the end of the season.“
As for Mechelen, they sit third in the table, and still have an outside chance of topping the table with just three games left. They’ll likely need to win all of their remaining matches, which includes a home tie against leaders Charleroi, who are five points clear of De Kakkers. With the AFAS Stadion hosting two key matches, it’s vital that Mechelen start the run-in with a victory against struggling Liège.
Kick off is at 18:15 CET.
