KV Mechelen edging towards making Fred Vanderbiest permenant head coach

Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that KV Mechelen are strongly considering making Fred Vanderbiest the sides permanent head coach. Vanderbiest has been acting as caretaker head coach for the side since Besnik Hasi, now managing Anderlecht, was sacked a few months ago. Despite the side not being able to push for top spot in the play-offs after a poor run of results, it appears that the club is leaning towards keeping Vanderbiest in post for the 2025/2026 season.

This may come as a surprise and disappointment to some KV Mechelen fans. The club had been reportedly interested in bringing either Rik De Mil, who currently has Charleroi qualified for the European play-off, or Jonas De Roeck, who led Antwerp into the top six before being unfairly dismissed. While it is by no means a done deal, reports suggest that the club have been looking for members to join Vanderbiest’s staff for the upcoming season.
