HLN are reporting that KV Mechelen defender Rafik Belghali is set to leave the club to join Serie A side Hellas Verona. Belghali had been linked with clubs such as Ajax, Genk and Toulouse during the summer window, but it appears that on Saturday the Italian side struck a deal with KV Mechelen for the Algerian full-back. As a result, Belghali was not involved in the sides draw with Gent.
The 23-year-old joined KV Mechelen from second tier side Lommel back in the summer of 2023. He only played nine games during his debut season for the side, but last year became a first team regular on the right-hand side. He played 38 games in all competitions for KV Mechelen, scoring once and grabbing two assists. Prior to the weekends clash with Gent, the defender had played in all three games to open the season for the side. KV Mechelen are one five sides yet to lose this season.
Hellas Verona are yet to start their season, with Serie A only beginning on the 25th of August. However, Hellas Verona will begin their Coppa Italia campaign on Monday evening away to Serie C side Audace Cerignola. Hellas Verona finished the 2024/2025 campaign in 14th place in Serie A.
