Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that KV Mechelen have a six man shortlist to replace Besnik Hasi for the 2024/2025 season. Amongst these is Carl Hoefkens, who most recently managed Standard Liege. The former Stoke midfielder was also briefly with Club Brugge before being sacked. Another former Pro League head coach on the shortlist is ex-Westerlo leader Jonas De Roeck. He was sacked during the 2023/2024 season and replaced by Rik De Mil.

Of the two names mentioned, De Roeck probably fits more in line with what Mechelen would be looking for. His Westerlo team played an entertaining brand of football during the 2022/2023 season and he was unlucky not to be given time to turn things around this year, with the side having brought in a number of new players in the summer.

The club had been in discussions with Hasi about expending his stay, but in the end the sides could not come to an agreement.
